Lusaka, 15th April 2021 – His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu this morning swore in 7 Hon. Judges of the Superior Courts. The Hon. Judges who stem from within the judicial service and the Legal Aid Board are as follows:
Hon. Lady Justice Fulgency Mwenya Chisanga former Judge President of the Court of Appeal who has been sworn in as Hon. Judge of the Supreme Court, Hon. Mr. Justice Mwila Chitabo, SC previously of the High Court, now sworn in as Hon. Judge of the Constitutional Court, Hon. Mr. Justice Mathew Kasonde Chisunka formerly of the High Court, now elevated to the Constitutional Court, Hon. Lady Justice Judy Zulu Mulongoti from the Court of Appeal to the Constitutional Court. Sworn in from the High Court to the Court of Appeal are Hon. Lady Justice Anessie Banda-Bobo and Hon. Lady Justice Nicola Ann Sharpe-Phiri. Hon. Mr. Justice Kelvin Muzenga joins the Court of Appeal bench from the Legal Aid Board.
In his remarks, His Excellency, the Republican President Mr. Edgar C. Lungu congratulated the Judges on their appointment. He called upon them to reflect on the expectations of the people of Zambia and execute their duties with unquestionably high integrity and professionalism in a manner that is inspired by the principals of judicial authority provided for in Article 118(2) of the Constitution.
In congratulating the Judges, the Hon. Chief Justice echoed President Lungu’s sentiments on the need to reflect on the expectations of the people of Zambia, and that this translates into quality delivery of justice. She commended the Judges on their hard work, and cautioned them against falling into backlog, which is costly on time, emotions, and resources to both the Judiciary and the people of Zambia.
