Hon. Mr. Justice Michael Musonda, S.C, is the Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia. He was appointed Deputy Chief Justice on 11th July, 2019. Justice Musonda holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zambia. Justice Musonda is a Rhodes Scholar and holds a Master of Laws degree in Commercial and Corporate Law and a Master of Philosophy degree in Management Studies from King’s College, University of London and Oxford University respectively. He was admitted to the bar in1987.
Prior to his current appointment, Justice Musonda was a Judge of the Supreme Court having been appointed to this position in 2015. Justice Musonda was managing partner at M. Musonda & Co. a firm of general Legal Practitioners from 1993 to 2015. He once served as a lecturer in the School of Law at the University of Zambia from 1992 to 1996 and as Honorary Lecturer and Examiner at the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) for over 15 years until August 2017. While at the Bar, Justice Musonda served as President of the Law Association of Zambia for two terms from 2002 to 2004.
He was conferred with the rank and status of State Counsel on 4th August, 2015.
Justice Musonda previously served as Chairperson of the Lands Tribunal and Road Service Appeals Tribunal from 2006 to 2009 and …….. to ……. , respectively. Justice Musonda also served as Board Chairperson of the Times Printpak Zambia Limited from 2012 to 2015.
Justice Musonda is a Court-Annexed Mediator and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
